CamBam is an application to create CAM files (gcode) from CAD source files or its own internal geometry editor. CamBam currently supports the following: Reading from and writing to 2D DXF files. 2.5D profiling machine operations with auto-tab support. G-Wizard Calculator. We do a terrible job advertising it, but most of G-Wizard Calculator is free. You sign up for the free trial, and when that ends, even if you don’t purchase, most of the tabs will go right on working for you. Searching and searching for a CAD/CAM package for Mac computers is near impossible to find. So I thought I'd post it here hoping that you guys might have something in the works already. There are a ton of Mac users that would buy $$$$ this program in a heart beat and I'm sure that's why Rhino is working on it.
Not to mention us mac users usually pay twice as much for a program as long as it runs correctly, so if you guys might be working on something like this, I'll be your first beta tester ( if a cash deposit is needed, then no problem ).Any chance in the near future you're coding CamBam for Mac computers?Logged. Mac OSX has about 5% to 8% of the worldwide PC market, PC's are 65% or so, Linux 10%, etc. Lets say that 1% of computer users would be interested in a program like CamBam you would have a whopping potential of 1% of 8% of the market or 0.8%. So you go through a whole heap of headaches for very little reward. Though, if you do write an app that Macophiles like you can have the whole group to yourself as there is not much competition. I do have 'some' experience in cross platform CAD/CAM projects so this is just my 'feelings' on the subject. Now, there is the Mono project which could help make it easier to support great.NET sw on MAC and Linux, it will be interesting to see where it goes.Logged. Sorry Jeff I'm going to disagree coming from a strong film, CG animation, etc.

Background which Mac is pretty much our standard. Not sure of the exact number, but 5 years ago I'd say you would be pretty close. Yes I agree PC are used more throughout the world, but gotta remember they've had quite a jump since the 80's. Mac recently coming back since 2001, and just the last two years they had a good percentage of people making the switch and actually liking it.There are quite a few companies that still use PC, but you'll see alot more Macs as the years go.
I was surprised to see the CNC companies here now using Macs for design purpose. It's not really even the name Mac/Apple, it's more about the OS system. Both Mac and PC use the same exact parts inside, but only different op systems. I'm not trying to make this a throwing contest, and respect your opinion, and could care less if macs take over the world, just wanted to know if CB might have something in store.pixelmaker Pm'dLogged. 'Searching and searching for a CAD/CAM package for Mac computers is near impossible to find.' If what was said in the previous post was even close to true, then this wouldn't be the case.
I fell for the mac hype myself. Bought a nice laptop and used it about 2 months before selling it and buying a PC. There wasn't much difference in the OS, it certainly was not noticeably more stable than a PC, and I found that I was booting into windows 90% of the time because software wasn't available for the mac. And once windows is running you have to deal with a keyboard/mouse/trackpad that was designed for something else. It didn't make any sense to continue.Maybe mac will come along and be popular enough for companies to maintain 2 versions of their software, but for now it is simply (and obviously) not the case.Logged. As for the Mac vs PC or should I say OSX vs windows, it really depends on what you're using it for.

Both have different strengths for different applications. I simply like the way a mac runs/appearance. PC in the film world, they work ok, but no where even close to a mac. In the engineering, game world, point of sale world might be better. Yes the programs are pretty hard to find, and that's pretty much what this post is about.Spiked as mention in my earlier post, just asking CB.
Maybe it should have been a PM, not a post. Not trying to swat the bees nest here, I use them too.LoggedPages: 1.
